The First Peoples Principles of Learning work to guide educators in BC by highlighting some indigenous values within teaching and learning. When one begins to explore these principles, it quickly becomes apparent that all teaching and learning should be rooted in these ideals. They are applicable across the curriculum and should have a place within every lesson. However, it is important to recognize the limitations of the First Peoples Principles of Learning. The First Peoples Principles of Learning do not fully represent the values and views of any one indigenous group in Canada. Instead, the First Peoples Principles of Learning work to identify common themes within these groups and apply them to education. It is critical that educators recognize the importance of moving beyond the First Peoples Principles of Learning by seeking out deeper information about local Indigenous groups.
